Cross-border integration of universities as a possible research topic in border studies

2021

The text deals with the cross-border cooperation of universities as a possible new research topic in border studies. We identified two important associations of universities operating in border areas in the EU core and two associations gathering universities from Czech, Polish and Slovak areas. Then we tried to identify the areas in which these universities cooperate. It turned out that the principal difference is in a significantly higher number of joint study programs. This has probably a link to the high cross-border integration in the EU core. We believe that the topic is promising and deserves much higher attention, as it probably points at new and not really exploited cross-border int…

The Opportunities of Cluster Development in Borderland of Poland and the Czech Republic

2016

The cluster was defined according to the definition proposed by M.E. Porter as a specialized concentration of mutually competing and cooperating enterprises which gives them the ability to generate and maintain a competitive advantage. The most important element of the cluster are geographically concentrated companies from a single industry. A concentration of enterprises aggravates their mutual competition in the markets and factors of production and simultaneously produces external effects which are beneficial for them - for example, a greater influx of innovative resources and staff necessary for the smooth running of the production process or provision of services in their industry. Reciprocal vs nonreciprocal trade agreements: Which have been best to promote exports?

2019

The Doha Development Agenda recognizes the central role that international trade can play in the promotion of economic development. In fact, the increase of exports from developing countries to developed nations' markets has been considered a key element for developing countries to realize the potential benefits of globalization. Over the last decades, developed countries have provided preferential access to their markets to developing countries through nonreciprocal trade agreements. Moreover, developing countries have also participated in reciprocal trade agreements. This paper re-examines comparatively the effect of both kinds of trade agreements on exports from developing countries but …

Organizational Cooperation and Knowledge Management in Research and Development Organizations

2017

Organizational Cooperation (OC) is a current concept that responds to the growing interdependence among individuals and teams. Likewise, Knowledge Management (KM) accompanies specialization in all sectors of human activity. Most KM processes are cooperation-intensive, and the way both constructs relate to each other is relevant in understanding organizations and promoting performance. The present paper focuses on that relationship. The Organizational Cooperation Questionnaire (ORCOQ) and the Short form of the Knowledge Management Questionnaire (KMQ-SF) were applied to 639 members of research and development (R&D) organizations (Universities and Research Institutes). Descriptive, correla…
